This is a high-profile, unique opportunity to promote and facilitate the effective and efficient record keeping for the government, on behalf of the people of Ontario. You will serve as the trusted leader in records and information management, and ensure seamless access to information for citizens, while protecting personal information within the Ontario Public Service and the broader public sector.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Reporting to the Deputy Minister, the Chief Privacy Officer & Archivist of Ontario will:

• Provide executive leadership and direction for the strategic planning, priority setting and overall direction of the Archives of Ontario.

• Lead negotiations and provide expert consulting services, direction and advice on the management of records within government, to ensure long term integrity of the historical record.

• Develop and foster a culture of leadership at all levels of the organization, focusing on excellence and innovation by promoting an expert, engaged and flexible workforce, which supports the organization's vision for modern working archives.

• Develop and implement strategies, customer service initiatives and educational programs that showcase Ontario's public and private archival records; enhance the customer experience and foster government accountability and transparency.

• Manage the interests and expectations of the public and key stakeholders, including the Information and Privacy Commissioner.

• Lead the strategic plan for the Archives of Ontario, balancing key priorities with legislative requirements.

• Support the Minister of Government and Consumer Services in his responsibility for the administration of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), through policy development, training, guidance resources and promotion of communities of practice.

• Be the enterprise champion for the consistency of practice in delivering services related to protection of personal information and access to information.

• Provide leadership to the Ontario Public Service and the broader public sector on protection of personal information and ensuring access to information as mandated in both the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

• You are an inspiring and inclusive senior executive with a background in operational excellence, business transformation, developing strategic directions and championing best models and practices.
• You understand and apply best practices for employee engagement when managing people and organizational culture change.
• You demonstrate a high-level of professional judgement, political acuity and interpersonal skills, which inspires trust and confidence.

Strategic and Operational Leadership:

• You are experienced in driving and managing change to modernize business operations.
• You can implement strategies that strengthen accountability in government recordkeeping and improve service delivery strategies.

Technical Knowledge:

• You understand process and best practice management.
• You have knowledge of access to information and privacy protection legislation and practices for provincial, municipal governments and provincial agencies.
• You have knowledge of record management practices.

Stakeholder Relations:

• You are a proven strategic collaborator who can build linkages and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders across ministries and agencies to meet government-wide and ministry mandates.
• You demonstrate superior public relations skills to support internal teams, represent the government and be a spokesperson for Archives Ontario, while promoting archival holdings, resources, educational programs and material.
• You are an influential communicator with an established credibility with ministry stakeholders and partners to work effectively with political staff and senior officials to provide advice on issues management and training that supports the ministry's regulatory obligations.
• You can represent the government and lead stakeholder and public engagements by identifying collaboration opportunities and building commitment to shared goals.
