Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to take your well-developed research, mapping and analytical skills to the next level? If so, consider this opportunity with the Finance, Analysis and Systems Support Branch, Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities where you will use your skills to lead and support a range of research and analytics projects in support of the Ministry's employment and training programs.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
-conduct and/or lead research, statistical analysis, research, mapping and reporting on Ontario socioeconomic, demographic and labour market conditions
-analyze data from a variety of sources to make comparisons, identify relationships, and determine the trends and implications for employment and training programs
-develop a range of analytical reports, maps, datasets, products and tools for staff across the division to support division business planning, program and policy development and to track service trends
-provide analytics advice and prepare a range of reports and briefing materials for use by senior management
-liaise with other branches and ministries to discuss research and respond to inquiries
-represent the unit/branch/ministry on working groups and committees

How do I qualify?

Specialized skills:

You have:
- the ability to coordinate and undertake the development of custom socioeconomic and demographic profiles, spatial analysis and mapping products to support deciosn-making by divisional staff
-the ability to analyze socioeconomic and demographic trends to assess the implications for Ministry programs
-the ability to develop in-depth knowledge of the legislation, regulations and guidelines of the Ministry and of other ministries as they affect the employment and training service sector
-the ability to demonstrate knowledge of social, economic, cultural, demographic trends, critical issues and concerns, research and innovations in the area of employment and training services in Ontario and other jurisdictions

Analytical, research and problem-solving skills:

You have:
-experience using research metholds, and analysing statistical and geographic information, and applying analytical techniques to primary data sources and secondary research findings in support of branch policy and program decision-making
-problem-solving skills to identify stakeholder issues, define the problem and examine all options, including pros and cons, and provide recommendations to support program and policy evaluations
-decision-making skills in order to lead research and analysis projects and initiatives
-evaluating skills to identify emerging issues, trends and developments
-knowledge of project management methods and best practices to lead and co-ordinate multi-disciplinary, cross-divisional project teams
-effective data management practices and principles to ensure high quality data

Communication and consultation skills:

You have:
-oral and written communication skills to provide advice and complete a range of reports and briefing materials, complete information requests, prepare and present analyses to diverse audiences to present data and analytic results to non-technical users clearly and effectively, and to demonstrate/promote analytical/modelling approaches
-experience preparing graphs and other data visualizations to enable analysis and communicate the results of analysis clearly and effectively
-consultation and relationship management skills to exchange information, discuss issues, gain support and liaise with other branches, ministries, and stakeholders on policy and program issues in order to seek information and feedback

Computer skills:

- you have expert competency in the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to prepare maps, conduct location/spatial analysis, support research and policy/program development activities
-you are proficient in the use of computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, visualization, project management and scheduling to prepare reports, briefing materials, presentations, and project plans
-you are proficient in the use and creation of databases
-you have knowledgeable in the use of statistical software and knowledge in the use of web-based mapping and data visualization tools
-you are proficient in the use of internet and search engines to research and prepare own materials
