The Provincial Schools Branch manages the administration and operation of the Provincial and Demonstration Schools for students with special needs at five decentralized, complex and multi-cultural sites across the province of Ontario. The Manager, Operations & Branch Infrastructure is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of operational services. What can I expect to do in this role?

• lead and motivate professional staff located in several locations, promote team building and a healthy work environment
• provide leadership and expertise for the planning, management and administration of the operational and support services of the Provincial Schools Branch
• develop capital plans and provide strategic advice on issues related to operational and support services, including financial, human resources, business planning and safety
• partner with service providers and team members to facilitate cooperative approaches and mutual business efforts with various consultants and contractors
• manage program and operational resources and ensure compliance
• develop, implement and manage capital projects and a preventative maintenance plan and systems
• manage health and safety, environment controls, space allocation, rental and lease agreements and develop procedures for the safe, efficient and cost effective delivery of services

How do I qualify?

Leadership skills:

• You have knowledge of human resources management to lead staff in a unionized environment and promote a collaborative and healthy work environment.
• You have leadership, organizational, and co-ordination skills to plan and manage various services and the activities of assigned staff in a project oriented work environment.

Operations and facilities management expertise:

• You have knowledge and understanding of industry and public sector facilities management, security concepts, trends, technology, principles, standards and business practices to deliver innovative and strategic programs and services.
• You have specialized technical knowledge in facilities management such as; space standards, barrier free design requirements, energy conservation, ergonomics, building codes, to ensure compliance and provide advice.
• You have knowledge of IT systems and infrastructure, security screening and procurement processes as they apply to facilities management.
• You have expert knowledge of student transportation systems to administer the complex program throughout the province.

Stakeholder management and communication skills:

• You have excellent relationship management skills to collaborate with senior management and stakeholders to elicit quality information from appropriate sources and to provide expert, authoritative advice.
• You have negotiation skills to develop service agreements and contracts with vendors.
• You can prepare correspondence, project proposals, recommend changes to ministry policies and prepare reports.
• You can effectively communicate complex operational issues or financial and human resources information in a manner that is easy to understand.

Project leadership skills:

• You have strong project management skills to lead concurrent projects across multiple sites in the province.
• You have knowledge of financial processes and an understanding of complex capital planning to oversee operation and project budgets.

Analytical and planning skills:

• You have Analytical and problem solving skills to assess requirements, deliver appropriate programs and resolve issues.
• You have strategic planning and conceptual skills to develop plans and policy to support the safe operation of the provincial schools, including emergency and pandemic planning.
