Are you experienced in program delivery and have the ability to provide technical leadership and guidance across multiple program areas? Do you have experience and interest in water control operations and management at a watershed level? Do you enjoy working in a team environment with a dedication to public safety and ensuring responsible resource management operations?

If so, consider this challenging opportunity as an IRM Technical Specialist with responsibilities that will include monitoring resource management activities for compliance and efficient delivery of resource management activities and projects.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• lead the technical and operational aspects of water management program activities including the operation and maintenance of water control structures, flood and emergency response and erosion control;
• plan, coordinate, implement and monitor technical/operational forestry, fish and wildlife, lands and waters and aggregate program activities;
• organize field projects, monitor progress and results of projects and administer the compliance processes;
• provide technical/operational/group leadership, guidance and advice through consultation, negotiations, and conflict resolution;
• ensuring consistent application of legislation, regulations, policies and procedures and implement compliance plans and field inspections;
• communicate resource management program information to the public, clients, partners, resource industries and Aboriginal peoples;
• provide testimonial evidence in court and legal tribunals;
• support long range planning teams by providing technical input to land use and resource management planning decisions.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's license or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario and the ability to travel within the service area.

Communication, Planning, Coordination abilities and experience:

• You have the proven ability and experience to plan, lead/coordinate and participate in waters program and project activities including dam operations, maintenance and emergency response.
• You have the demonstrated ability and experience to plan, lead/coordinate and implement forestry, fish and wildlife, lands and aggregates programs, projects and partnership activities.

Technical Knowledge:

• You have strong knowledge of forestry, fish and wildlife, lands and waters, aggregates legislation, activities, administrative policies/procedures, licencing and permitting.
• You have strong knowledge of watershed based resource management planning, watershed hydrology, flood forecasting warning systems, flood emergency response procedures, dam operations and regulatory requirements for activities in or around water bodies.
• You are experienced in land use and resource management planning processes and have previously contributed your expertise and technical advice to planning exercises.
• You have good working knowledge of personal computers/software including word-processing, data base, electronic mail, internet and spreadsheet applications to prepare correspondence and reports, input and retrieve data, prepare budgets and track expenditures; use internet and e-mail and
• You have good working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and those Regulations made under the act that apply to the workplace and the work being performed.

Interpretation, Communication and Interpersonal skills:

• You can interpret and apply relevant safety legislation and have demonstrated experience working in compliance with acts and regulations.
• You have strong interpersonal and communication skills to prepare written products, present resource management information and data to a variety of audiences and participate in briefings, public meetings, conducttraining and interact and deal effectively with staff, industry, local citizen's committees, resource users and the general public to promote understanding and discuss sensitive resource decisions and facilitate resolution of resource management conflicts.
