Are you a team-oriented, highly motivated, and strategic-minded professional with a strong background in policy development and analysis? If so, consider joining the Tobacco Policy Unit in the Ministry of Finance. This position offers a challenging opportunity to provide leadership and policy expertise to support the delivery of Ontario's Tobacco Strategy.

Please note the position may be located in either Toronto or Oshawa, based on the successful candidate's preference.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• Lead, coordinate and undertake policy research, analysis and development to support the government's Tobacco Strategy
• Lead, coordinate and undertake engagement with First Nations partners, stakeholders, and other ministries
• Prepare and present succinct, high-calibre briefing materials and provide specialized policy advice and recommendations to senior government officials

How do I qualify?

Policy Development Knowledge and Skills:

• You have knowledge of and skills in policy research, analysis and development principles and techniques
• You have knowledge of policy, legislative, and budgetary decision-making processes
• You are able to lead the research, analysis, development, implementation and evaluation of legislation, regulations, policies, programs, and initiatives, including the provision of strategic policy advice and the development of effective options

Communication, Negotiation and Leadership Skills:

• You have strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively prepare briefing materials and present complex policy and legislative issues to decision makers and stakeholders in a non-technical manner
• You have excellent interpersonal, stakeholder relationship management, consensus building, and negotiation skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, First Nations partners and stakeholders
• You are able to independently plan and lead projects

Technical Expertise:

• You have knowledge of relevant policy issues and concepts including tobacco taxation and regulation, Aboriginal affairs, and public health objectives, to support the development of provincial tobacco policies and programs
• You have the ability to interpret and apply legislation and regulations and provide strategic advice and options for the development and drafting of legislative instruments

Research, Analytical and Project Management Skills:

• You have proven research and project management skills to assess qualitative and quantitative information, analyse trends and plan and conduct studies and environmental scans
• You are proficient with various software programs to research and prepare materials
• You are able to successfully manage multiple concurrent complex projects and issues while maintaining a high quality of work
