If so, consider this unique opportunity to enhance the Ministry of Transportation's emergency management program and response capacity.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
• ensure the ministry is prepared to respond to actual and potential emergency situations in a coordinated and effective manner, consistent with relevant legislation
• support the ministry's response to events interrupting Time Critical Services as identified in the ministry's Continuity of Operations Program
• support the development of emergency response capacity in the broader public works and transportation sectors
• manage relationships with associations, municipalities, First Nations, non-governmental organizations and the private sector

Note:
The successful candidate can expect to travel 3-4 times per month.
Travel within Ontario and to neighbouring states or provinces on short notice is required.
On-call and the ability to report to emergency facilities or sites on short notice is required.

Optional Information Session:
A one-hour optional hiring information session will be held on October 6 at 7 p.m. in St Catharines. A simultaneous webinar option will be offered. To register for either the in-person session or the webinar, please contact theresa.upham@ontario.ca. The session will cover topics such as the structure and mandate of the ministry's Emergency Management and Planning Office, current priorities for the position and Ontario Public Service competition processes. There will be an opportunity for a question and answer session with the hiring manger and program staff.
This session is optional and will not influence the screening and selection process. Panel interviews will be scheduled with short-listed candidates following the application screening.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

Ability to obtain the following Licensing and/or Certifications within six (6) months of beginning the position:
• DZ driver's license or equivalent (For more information, visit: http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/driver/truck-driver-licence.shtml#class-d)
• Industry Canada Restricted (radio) Operator Certificate - Aeronautical
• Certificates in Standard First Aid and CPR-C, or equivalent

Emergency Management Knowledge

• you know emergency management principles and best practices related to planning, response, training and exercises
• you know relevant provincial and federal legislation, regulations and policies related to emergency management
• you can use specialized emergency response equipment to support emergency operations in the field, including emergency support vehicles
• you can use two-way radios, base stations, repeaters, interoperability devices, modular facilities, satellite telecommunications devices, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, safety equipment and cameras
• you are can use software to prepare own materials including the use of specialized software, such as GIS software and emergency management software

Relationship Management

• you know issues and practices related to transportation and public works associations
• you can manage relations with provincial ministries, federal organizations, municipalities, First Nations, non-governmental organizations and the private sector
• you can represent the office with internal and external stakeholders, senior officials and contiguous jurisdictions
• you have customer service skills and political acuity to build credible and professional partnerships with internal and external stakeholders

Presentation and Training Experience

• you can identify training needs, develop training materials and deliver training programs on emergency management to staff and management
• you can complete specialized emergency management training on topics such as advanced incident management courses, health and safety management, debris management, logistics, coordination, winter storm response and hazardous materials
• you can use communications skills to develop and deliver a range of products including presentations, training, plans, procedures and briefings
• you can conduct consultations and lead working groups

Project Management

• you can lead and participate on project committees, working groups and task forces
• you can ensure efficient use of resources and initiate and manage projects from concept to evaluation and close-out
