The Provincial Schools Branch manages the administration of provincial programs, policies and operations of schools for students with special needs in Ontario.

They are seeking a Compliance professional to co-ordinate emergency management and the continuity of operations planning across multiple Provincial and Demonstration school locations . Assist managers to document compliance requirements of legislation, policies and procedures required to be implemented in their programs.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a Compliance Officer you will perform core duties for five decentralized sites which include:

• Coordinating and monitoring the development and dissemination of Branch policies in compliance with legislation, regulations and directives and the integration of Branch and individual school policies with OPS policies
• Leading and auditing the on-going review of physical building security, building codes, emergency and pandemic management, ministry continuity of operational plans (COOP) and systems
• Conducting/coordinating hazard/threat risk assessments to support compliance with ministry policies, programs and legislative requirements.
• Preparing a variety of research/business reports and business cases, regarding Ontario Public Service (OPS) “green employer” initiatives to improve the efficiency of internal business services.
• Researching and coordinating health and safety, green initiative, and emergency management and other compliance related training.
• Overseeing Mass Notification Systems and liaising with all site stakeholders to ensure continuity of operations

How do I qualify?

Compliance planning and emergency management knowledge

You have:
• knowledge of project/compliance planning practices and reporting requirements.
• knowledge of Provincial Schools' operating policies to develop plans, implement and coordinate the support and safe operation of the schools
• knowledge of building and fire codes and the Emergency Management Act to develop and implement emergency management plans.
• knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulations, pertinent sections of relevant federal, provincial and municipal legislation and codes (e.g. Building Code, Fire Code, AODA, Environmental regulations etc.), related standards (e.g. Canadian Standards Association, Electrical Utilities Safety Association, Technical Standards and Safety Authority, etc.)

Project management and advisory skills

You have:
• the ability to provide recommendations to management/staff.
• the ability to provide health and safety advice, and services to managers and staff on OH&S legislation, requirements and procedures.
• ability to effectively communicate complex operational issues to stakeholders in a manner that is easily understandable to audience

Other skills:

You have:
• the ability to deal with a variety of complex issues regarding operational support services for multiple sites
• the ability to liaise with and provide advice and expertise to managers, staff and stakeholders.
• the ability to maintain confidentiality of financial and business planning
• the ability to travel to locations not accessible to public transportation
