The Monteith Correctional Complex seeks an individual to maintain institutional vehicles and perform repairs on gasoline and diesel engines including tractors, grass mowers, snow blowers and other small engine equipment.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• Perform gasoline and diesel engine maintenance and repairs including: wheel balancing tire rotation and repair, shock replacement, brake resurfacing, engine analysis and tune-up electric and acetylene welding where applicable, engine shampoo and high-powered steam cleaning
• Perform driving assignments as required
• Make arrangements for scheduled maintenance and warranty work
• Demonstrate proper methods to assigned inmates, assigning and checking work
• Ensure security, welfare and safety of inmates in the shop and during escort
• Assess inmates' conduct and progress in order to submit reports including misconducts as needed

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You have a Class A Ontario or Canada-wide license in gasoline and diesel engines, following completion of required apprenticeship
• You have a valid Ontario G, D or A driver's license or equivalent in another jurisdiction
• You possess oral French language skills at the advanced level

Specialized Knowledge and Experience:

• You have knowledge and ability to perform gasoline and diesel engine maintenance and repair including wheel balancing tire rotation and repair, brake resurfacing, engine analysis, tune up and acetylene welding, engine shampoo and high-powered steam cleaning
• You have the ability to estimate the cost of repairs
• You have the ability to supervise and instruct inmates
• You have the ability to acquire knowledge of security practices and techniques to ensure the security of inmates and the security of the work area
• You have the ability to acquire knowledge of practical correctional theory and principles to maintain custody and control of inmates

Communication, Interpersonal and Problem Solving Skills

• You have good communication skills both written and verbal to tactfully convey facts and information
• You are able to complete accurate reports/logs and identify repair needs
• You are able to maintain the care, custody and control of offenders
• You have strong problem solving skills in order to resolve issues and follow up on infractions as required
