What can I expect to do in this role?

• Assist and participates with the preparation, and/or review of land use and resource management plans and the integration of resource management activities by:
• Applying knowledge of legislation, policy, theory, principles and practice, to provide information and advice on questions of content;
• Preparing background reports, discussion papers, etc. describing the history, circumstances or nature of an issue to be dealt with in a land use or resource management plan;
• Assisting in the collection, consolidation and analysis of statistical data;
• Assisting in the development of planning options, including the analysis of options fro effectiveness and implications;
• Assisting in the development of resource management plans.
• Assists and participates in with the design and implementation of field inventory and assessment activities by:
• Reviewing and analyzing land use and resource inventories and assessments to quantify the presence, location and abundance of natural resource features;
• Carry out field surveys and assessments to support decisions in the land management tenure process.
• Managers have the right to assign additional duties.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• Understanding of legislation and policy governing land use planning and resource management planning.
• Good understanding of the theory, principles, and practices in a discipline of natural resource management and the theory, principles and practices of ecosystem management.
• Basic knowledge of computer applications in order to analyze data and prepare reports, i.e. word processing, database, spreadsheets, presentation software.
• Basic knowledge of analytical techniques to be used when preparing background reports, discussion papers and advise on questions of content.
• Basic knowledge of field survey and data collection techniques.
• Knowledge of worker responsibility as outlined in the OH&S Act.
• Familiarity with conflicting land issues.
• Understanding of public consultation techniques.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work and contribute in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Well developed interpersonal and communications skills.
• Good organization and time management skills.
• Basic facilitation skills.
• Ability to undertake and balance multiple tasks.
• Proof of eligibility to work in Canada;
• Proof of full-time enrolment in a recognized post-secondary college or university or graduation within the last five years; and
• Candidates are only eligible to participate in a maximum of two placements.

Please Note: The successful candidate will begin at the base-level pay rate and will move up in the pay scale in accordance with the OPSEU collective agreement.
