Are you a dynamic leader who has a wealth of knowledge in forest fire management and proven experience in working with stakeholders to meet strategic goals?

What can I expect to do in this role?

If so, consider joining the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services of the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) in this leadership role to manage and coordinate the planning, development and operations of MNR's forest fire and emergency response program and the Ministry Emergency Operations Centre (MEOC).

You will:
• provide coordination and strategic leadership in the design, development, analysis and implementation of provincial response and operations policies, strategies and performance standards
• lead, coordinate and direct the MEOC unit to support fire and emergency response in Ontario
• manage the development and implementation of cost-effective business, contracts, partnerships and service agreements
• establish strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders to meet the program's goals and delivery on key priorities and initiatives
• serve as a member of the response and operations management team

How do I qualify?

Technical skills:
• You have advanced knowledge of forest fire and emergency management practices and procedures.
• You have a good understanding of weather and the impact of weather conditions on forest fire behaviour.
• You have a thorough knowledge and understanding of resource management principles and their inter-relationship and significance as they relate to fire management.
• You have proven ability to interpret and apply applicable acts, regulations, policies, processes, procedures, standards and guidelines, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to the work.
• You have advanced understanding of the Incident Management System (IMS) and the CSA Z-1000 Safety Management System.

Management skills:
• You have highly developed managerial and team leadership skills to lead change, manage issues, coach staff and motivate a dynamic team to achieve goals and deliver results in high stress situations.
• You have demonstrated experience in strategic planning and ability to develop, analyze, implement and evaluate policies and business practices.
• You have strong analytical skills in problem identification and problem solving to apply to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of fire operations and emergency response management.

Communication skills:
• You have proven ability to effectively communicate with staff, manager/management team, senior management and other agencies.
• You have experience preparing comprehensive reports for presentation to internal and external groups inclusive of the fire management community nationally and internationally.
