What can I expect to do in this role?

• Assist with the development and implementation of action plans to protect and restore priority Coastal and Nearshore wetlands in Lake Erie.
• Coordinate efforts throughout the basin towards wetland restoration in order to improve water quality, decrease nutrient loading, improve biodiversity and increase awareness regarding the value and benefits of wetland habitats.

• Coordinate pre and post monitoring throughout the basin to determine the effectiveness of wetland restoration projects in Lake Erie, and possibly in other lake basins.
• Lead funding application submissions to acquire funds for restoration and monitoring.

How do I qualify?

Qualifications

• Knowledge of biology and ecology including conservation biology, restoration ecology and biodiversity conservation.
• Knowledge of current natural resource inventory, monitoring and assessment techniques to carry out natural resource field work to assist in the monitoring and assessment of aquatic habitat and water quality
• Understanding of conservation issues, and legislative and planning tools that support the protection of natural heritage values and areas in Ontario.
• Knowledge of analytical techniques and computer applications in order to analyze data and prepare reports; including geographic information systems and mapping to effectively manage and implement assigned projects.
• Well developed interpersonal, oral and written communications skills to work with Ministry partners to prepare and present outreach and educational materials and technical reports
• Organizational skills to coordinate monitoring and restoration projects.

Eligibility

• Proof of eligibility to work in Canada;
• You possess a valid driver's license.
• Proof of full-time enrolment in a recognized post-secondary college or university or graduation within the last five years;
• Candidates are only eligible to participate in a maximum of two placements and must meet the above eligibility criteria for the duration of both placements.
