What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• monitor, facilitate and stimulate exploration, development and production of the Timmins district's mineral resources
• provide professional technical advice and information about the district's geology, mineral potential and exploration and development activity to client groups
• conduct and document field examinations and assist in coordinating district geoscience activities
• provide supervision direction and coordination for professional and technical staff
• manage and administer district office functions

How do I qualify?

Mandatory requirements:

• You must be a registered geoscientist with the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (APGO) or with another regulated association of geoscientists.
• You must have a valid driver's licence to travel to remote sites and the ability to conduct fieldwork in remote bush areas.

Specialized knowledge:

• You must have extensive knowledge of geological theories, principles and practices.
• You have demonstrated experience in geological survey work, field-based mineral exploration or in mining geology.
• You have knowledge of the principles of economic geology.
• You have demonstrated ability to undertake in-depth independent geological studies.

Communication and people skills:

• You have proven communication and presentation skills to convey geoscience and technical information.
• You have consultation and facilitation skills to provide clients with expert advice and facilitate work amongst clients, stakeholders and inter-ministerial colleagues.
• You have proven interpersonal and team leadership skills.

Analytical and problem-solving skills:

• You can conduct, monitor and interpret geoscience field work/survey results and evaluate scientific and technical results.
• You have demonstrated project management experience.
• You have the ability to provide direction and co-ordination of activities to staff.

Other important skills:

• You have the skills to administer the physical and financial operations and personnel of an office and outdoor drill core library.
• You are proficient with computer applications and systems such as GPS, GIS, internet, spreadsheets, email, database and word-processing.
• You have knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and any potential or actual hazards to health and safety that apply to the workplace to ensure compliance and safety when conducting field and office operation.
