Algonquin Provincial Park is located on Highway 60, 5 km from the town of Whitney (population of 900). Medical facilities, churches of several denominations, and elementary schools (public and separate) are available in Whiney. Hospital, dental services and secondary schools are situated in Bancroft (54 km), Barry's Bay (50 km) and Huntsville (100 km). Houses for rent are limited in the Whitney area and the Park has limited staff housing available.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a member of the Highway 60 operations team, under the general supervision of the operations leader and group leadership of the parks group leader and assistant group leader, you will carry out a variety of technical duties, program responsibilities and group leadership associated with park enforcement, visitor registration, orientation, security, facility sanitation and general maintenance.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

working knowledge of resource management principles and techniques as they apply to parks as well as relevant acts, regulations and procedures; good knowledge of Parks programs, services and operating regulations; good group leadership, organizational, interpersonal, mathematical and oral/written communication skills; knowledge of and skill in the operation and maintenance of a variety of office and light powered equipment such as lawn mowers, chainsaws, boats, small hand tools; knowledge of general building and utility maintenance; knowledge of canoe tripping/camping, navigation, and practices/techniques of outdoor living; working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and those regulations made under the Act that apply to the workplace and the work being performed; ability to work independently, follow and carry out instructions.

Position requires: the ability to be designated as a park warden and meet ministry certification criteria and standards in the use of force, the ability to obtain a Pleasure Craft Operator certificate, the ability to obtain Firearms Possession/Acquisition licence and hunting licence, and the ability to work shifts, weekends and statutory holidays as per schedule and a valid driver's licence.
