Court Services Division (CSD) provides a modern and professional court service that supports an accessible, fair, timely and effective justice system.

CSD has legislated goals of:
• Maintain the independence of the judiciary as a separate branch of government
• Recognize the respective roles and responsibilities of the Attorney General and the judiciary in the administration of justice
• Encourage public access to the courts and public confidence in the administration of justice
• Further the provision of high-quality services to the public
• Promote the efficient use of public resources

Moreover, CSD has the business imperative of processing cases in a timely and efficient manner:
• Courtroom technology supports efficient case processing
• Electronic case tracking permits continuous monitoring of case volumes, case flow and dispositions
• Court filing and data entry are consistent, accurate and up-to-date at all court offices
• Court rules and procedures promote timely resolution of cases and reduce unnecessary appearances and costs
• The division works collaboratively with the judiciary, the bar and justice sector partners to eliminate case delays

What can I expect to do in this role?

As Director, Court Operations you will:
• Provide strategic leadership and coordination for delivering service-oriented court operations in a region of the province.
• Direct resource allocation, motivate large and diverse numbers of staff, and effectively manage key justice participant relationships.
• Lead, champion and encourage innovation and modernization initiatives within the justice system.
• Participate actively in divisional goal setting, and strategic and business planning while promoting efficient, effective, and consistent implementation of public policy goals.
• Support and promote a productive team environment, which reflects a culture of excellence and an inclusive, diverse, equitable, respectful and accessible work place.

Travel is required to the court locations within the region and occasionally across Ontario.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• Oral and written proficiency in English and in French at the superior level.

Senior and Inclusive Leadership

• You are a character leader and have senior level coordination to support strategic objectives.
• You are an inclusive leader and can foster a culture where new and diverse ideas are valued, and team members are empowered to be their best.
• You have demonstrated the ability to establish priorities, delegate projects, monitor progress, and motivate a group of professionals to deliver on key commitments.
• You have experience leading issues management and delivering recommendations that are appropriate and timely.

Partner Management, Client Service and Political Acuity

• You have demonstrated the ability to promote and maintain a client-focused organization by developing and sustaining positive, productive relationships with justice participants, including but not limited to the judiciary, bar, police, media and public.
• You are adept at balancing competing demands between limited resources and high client-service expectations by making innovative decisions to maximize resource utilization.
• You have superior verbal and written communication skills allowing for effective stakeholder relations.
• Leading with a common purpose, you are able to find common themes in disparate agendas and can provide influence to lead partners to outcomes that can be accepted.

Technical Knowledge

• You have knowledge of government directions, priorities, and agenda related to the justice sector, particularly in the area of court operations.
• You have experience managing and directing physical, financial and human resources to ensure flexible, efficient, and effective delivery of services, particularly in a unionized environment.
• You have experience managing and operating significant budgets, monitoring and controlling major expenditures, evaluating progress, and making evidence-based decisions.
