Probation and Parole Officers play an important role in helping to ensure public safety. They manage offenders sentenced to serve their sentences in the community providing you an opportunity to make a difference.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role you will be able to make an impact while you:
- Provide probation, parole and conditional sentence services to adult offenders
-Liaise with police, courts, Ontario Board of Parole and agencies in the criminal justice system
- Assess criminogenic risk and develop and implement offender case management plans
- Monitor and enforce conditions of court orders
- Prepare reports ordered by the courts.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

-You have a Bachelors Degree from a University of recognized standing.
-You are proficient in advanced level oral and written French.

Specialized knowledge and skills:

-You have the ability to effectively conduct assessments, gather, evaluate and analyze information in order to develop case management plans.
- You can apply social work theories and principles, motivational practices and rehabilitative strategies to meet client needs.
- You can make enforcement decisions with respect to compliance with court orders and take legal action when necessary.

General knowledge and skills:

- You have superior oral communication and interpersonal skills to interview clients, deliver group programs and exchange information.
- You have proven written communication skills to write comprehensive reports using legal terminology.
- You have strong computer skills to input and retrieve data.
-You are able to meet administrative practices and procedures related to case management.
-You have the ability to interpret and apply legislation and policy.

Additional Information:

Successful candidates who have not completed the Ministry's Probation and Parole Officer basic training program and who have not met the experience requirement will be hired in the lower Probation Officer (PO1) salary range ($957.32 - $1,210.23). Salary treatment will be in accordance with the applicable classification rate for which the applicant was successful.
