Are you seeking a challenging opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge of the real estate industry? Bring your valuable skills to the Ministry of Transportation's Property Section Team where you will perform all aspects of appraisal, negotiations and land management activities related to the acquisition and disposal of real estate for public purposes.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• negotiate with property owners and/or their representatives for the appropriate compensation for property acquisition
• prepare detailed appraisals and reports by analyzing real estate activities
• perform field investigations and obtain disposal approvals
• manage consultant contracts and procurement services
• identify and assist in the resolution of contamination issues, and make recommendations regarding risks and solutions

Note: This position requires extensive travel within the region.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You must possess a valid driver's licence in order to travel to field locations not accessible by public transit.

Real Estate Knowledge:

• You have extensive knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of appraisals, negotiations, disposal and land management activities, and experience in acquiring, managing and disposing property rights for public purposes.
• You have sound knowledge of and ability to apply and interpret the Expropriations Act, and working knowledge of other relevant statues and regulations (i.e., Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act, Planning Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Environmental Protection Act, Landlord and Tenant Act, Registry Act, Land Titles Act, Surveys Act).

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• You can negotiate with property owners and/or their legal representatives.
• You can use your problem solving and analytical skills to resolve contentious issues
• You are able to build and maintain effective working relationships.
• You can communicate effectively to discuss and explain agreement of purchase and sale and to produce detailed reports.
• You have arithmetic skills to adjust comparable sales properties and calculate claims and appropriate compensation.

Other Skills:

• You have demonstrated ability to read and interpret legal descriptions, survey plans and engineering drawings.
• You can review and prepare property appraisal reports, agreements and other related documentation.
• You have experience with consultant hiring, monitoring and evaluation.
