Do you have a demonstrated track record of success and exceptional leadership skills? If so, the Ministry of Transportation wants you to lead the Northeastern Regional Traffic Section responsible for the management and activities that supports the delivery of safe and efficient traffic operations and provides traffic engineering expertise.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role you will:

• lead, plan, and deliver the programs and projects of the Traffic Section
• manage the planning and delivery of traffic engineering services within the Northeastern Region
• play a lead role in the development and implementation of new technologies, processes and concepts
• contribute to the development and review of traffic related legislation
• manage section operations and services by preparing annual operational plans, and identifying and recommending financial, equipment, and human resource requirements
• evaluate traffic impacts resulting from developmental proposals
• provide highway signing and traffic management during construction
• act as a Ministry official and represent the Northeastern Region in all matters pertaining to the effective operation of the highway network and safety

How do I qualify?

Mandatory requirement:

• must be licensed by the Professional Engineers of Ontario

Technical knowledge and skills:

• demonstrated knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of traffic engineering, planning, design, operation and evaluation of major transportation systems
• ability to interpret and apply legislation, policy development, procedures and standards related to highway operations and safety

Leadership and management skills:

• proven leadership and management skills to plan section services, control section budgets, and allocate financial/staff resources and to lead a large and diverse technical, administrative and professional staff

Analytical and communication skills:

• demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to identify traffic management requirements and to develop effective solutions to resolve issues and problems
• proven interpersonal, consultative, and communication skills to establish, maintain and negotiate effective relationships with senior staff, colleagues and stakeholders and to prepare section plans, project reports, and policy recommendations

Financial skills:

• demonstrated knowledge of estimating, forecasting and budgeting to provide cost effective program delivery
