The Ministry of Attorney General, Court Services Division, Ottawa Courthouse, requires one bilingual individual to provide clerical, cashier and counter services for the efficient operation of a court office.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role you will:

- Receive/process and issue court documents at a public counter, ensuring accuracy and completeness of filings;
- Sign, seal, issue/process a variety of documents such as certificates & notice of applications;
- Respond to telephone/counter inquires;
- Provide information on status of cases and procedural instructions to clients, legal profession and other agencies;
- Prepare, issue and sign court orders for unrepresented litigants;
- Prepare release documents for in-custody clients;
- Receive/review court orders, process and return completed orders;
- Set dates/trial times;
- Prepare court lists for such as motions, case conferences and other related court events;
- Compose routine correspondence;
- Operate cash register;
- Collect all relevant fees, process payments and issue invoices;
- Prepare deposits;
- Input/update cases on Court Computerized Systems;
- Record statistical data;
- Maintain filing systems;
- Provide administrative/clerical support to the court office.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

French Language skills at the Advanced Level (oral and written) are required.

Knowledge and Skill:

- Direct knowledge of the procedures, rules, acts, statutes, legislation and directives relevant to the Superior Court of Justice and Ontario
Court of Justice (Civil, Criminal);
- Direct knowledge of court practices/ procedures;
- Knowledge of office procedures/ practices to provide administrative/clerical support to the court office and maintain filing systems.
- Demonstrated organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills;
- Written/oral communication skills to respond to telephone/counter inquires and compose routine correspondence;
- Ability to use personal computer and related software such as MSWord/Excel and computerized systems (FRANK, ICON), keyboarding skills.
- Accuracy/attention to detail to record statistical data and prepare, issue and sign court orders for unrepresented litigants;
- Tact and discretion to deal effectively with the public, judiciary/legal profession to provide information on status of cases and procedural
instructions to clients, legal profession and other agencies;
- Ability to set priorities and complete work to strict deadlines;
- Ability to work independently and as a team player in a high volume environment;
- Knowledge of cash control practices; ability to handle cash and operate cash register; mathematical skills.
