Bring your strong leadership skills to the Office of the Fire Marshal where you will lead and direct the development of best practices, educational approaches, programs and initiatives to support the identification, implementation and evaluation of effective community fire and life safety public education programs.
What can I expect to do in this role?
• Support, develop and lead public education efforts of the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal
• Develop strategies and manage the design and production of education materials and Public Service announcements to effectively communicate, raise awareness and change human behaviours that contributre to fires and fire injuries
• Provide educational leadership and set the direction of the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council to raise promote fire and life safety programs
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address serious fire safety issues and gaps identified through our work in Fire Protection Services
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
The successful candidate requires a valid Ontario Drivers License, minimum Class G as the position may require travel and access to remote locations not serviced by public transportation
Fire Prevention and Public Safety Knowledge:
• you have a broad knowledge of fire prevention, protection and risk identification
• you have demonstrated knowledge of fire prevention and public fire safety education requirements
• you have the ability to understand the Fire Prevention and Protection Act (FPPA)
Leadership Skills:
• you have strong leadership skills to coordinate resources, set corporate and operational priorities and manage the activities of employees
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
• you have strong public relations skills
• you have strong oral communication and presentation skills and will be required to provide expert testimony at court cases, special hearings, inquiries and public inquiries
• you have strong skills to develop and deliver results driven Public Service Announcements to help raise public awareness of fire safety
• you are able to develop communication strategies to promote fire safety through news releases, public service announcements, articles and speeches
• you have strong interpersonal skills to develop and secure partnerships with various stakeholders and develop strategies to ensure program and partnership success
Adult Education Knowledge:
• you have demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of adult education to develop and deliver motivational and educational workshops to promote fire safety
• you have strong knowledge of curriculum development, and delivery, facilitation, presentation and instruction methods
• you have the ability to understand fire and life safety education programs current theories and strategies
Analytical and Problem Solving Skills:
• you have strong analytical skills and may be required to attend fire scenes to gather first-hand information for the creation of public safety messages that may derive from investigations
• you have strong researching skills to determine leading edge methods, techniques and formats to frame messaging, programming and initiatives
• you have strong problem solving skills to put forth recommendations for policy change
