Do you have strong knowledge and practical experience with laboratory methods used in fisheries and populations genetics? Are you interested in applying your leadership and laboratory management skills in a research environment? If so, this position will interest you.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

- Assume administrative, operational, training, and supervisory duties for the Aquatic Research and Development Section's aquatic genetics laboratory at Trent University;
- Plan, organize, and lead all technical aspects of the laboratory's research program and ensure their completion on schedule;
- Coordinate and implement effective information management methods for the Unit's genetics data;
- Assist with preparation of technical reports and formal scientific publications.

How do I qualify?

Knowledge and Technical Skills:

- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in DNA amplification, electrophoresis, and laboratory methods and equipment used in fisheries and population genetics;
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to trouble-shoot and resolve technical problems in the genetics laboratory and to analyze and summarize the resulting data;
- Knowledge of sound data management principles; demonstrated ability to use personal computers for data storage and retrieval and to prepare written reports and presentations;
- Knowledge of safe working practices in a laboratory setting and worker responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

People and Project Management Skills:

- Proven leadership, project management, and administrative skills to prepare operational plans, determine budget and staffing requirements, coordinate and implement multiple research projects concurrently, and lead staff and students in the laboratory;
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills, tact, and judgement to communicate with the public, staff, students and clients, and to train staff and students.
