Does working in a beautiful park setting with scenic waterfront campsites, rocky shorelines and access to summer hiking trails and canoeing pique your interest?

If so, come join the Ministry of Natural Resources at Grundy Lake Provincial Park and Sturgeon Bay Provincial Park and contribute to the protection of the area's biodiversity as well as promote exploration of the natural and cultural heritage of Ontario.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• perform a diverse set of duties such as maintenance of water operations, enforcement and revenue collection
• provide group leadership to seasonal maintenance, enforcement staff and students
• ensure visitor satisfaction with park facilities
• provide security for all park guests as well as provide park enforcement
• prepare and update park training, maintenance and equipment records
• purchase park maintenance and enforcement supplies
• act as the duty officer in charge of the park in the absence of the Park Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent

How do I qualify?

Mandatory requirements:

• You have a valid driver's licence to conduct field work.
• You have the ability to be designated as a Park Warden and meet the ministry certification criteria and standards in the use of force.
• You have a valid Emergency First Aid certificate or ability to obtain.
• You have a valid Limited Sub System Water certificate or ability to obtain.

Technical knowledge:

• You have knowledge of resource management principles, techniques and procedures relating to provincial parks.
• You have the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, acts, policies and procedures.
• You have the ability to determine the urgency of matters and respond to emergency situations.
• You have an understanding of parks programs, services and operating regulations.
• You have knowledge of general building maintenance.
• You have the ability to operate and maintain various equipment such as lawn mowers, chainsaw, all-terrain vehicles, generator and small hand tools.

People skills:

• You have proven group leadership skills.
• You have good interpersonal and communication skills to provide direction to staff and address complaints from park visitors.
• You have strong organizational skills to assign and monitor work.

General skills and knowledge:

• You have work planning skills and ability to track and monitor expenses.
• You have good mathematical skills.
• You are computer proficient including ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, record-keeping, database, email and internet software applications.
• You have an understanding of worker and supervisor responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

    The minimum salary rates identified in this posting are subject to revision as a result of the recently agreed to OPSEU collective agreement covering the period of January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2014.
