Consider these exciting opportunities with the Ministry of Labour's Health and Safety Policy Branch. You will provide leadership and expertise in the Ministry advancing its occupational health and safety mandate through the development of workplace injury and illness prevention and occupational health and safety legislation, regulations and programs.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Working independently and with a team, you will:

• play a leadership role in the development of policy papers, regulations and legislation and provide advice to senior ministry officials
• lead and facilitate processes to review occupational health and safety issues
• develop strategic frameworks and contribute to development of strategic plans for workplace injury and illness prevention and occupational health and safety
• undertake a review of Ministry's legislation/regulations, conduct high calibre research and analysis, and develop legislative/regulatory proposals and programs
• design, develop and utilize quantitative methods and models to identify and analyze economic and fiscal impacts of policy and program proposals
• undertake analysis and management of sensitive policy issues
• work collaboratively with and engage stakeholders on relevant issues
• prepare briefing notes, papers and presentation material on policy issues and attend briefing sessions

How do I qualify?

Technical Knowledge

• you have advanced knowledge of occupational health and safety law and policy
• you have advanced knowledge of economic and statistical methods and models

Research and Analysis

• you have superior research and analytical skills to evaluate and apply information to the development of policy options and occupational health and safety programs
• you can identify contentious and sensitive issues
• you have proven judgment and ability to exercise political acuity to represent the Ministry on behalf of the Deputy Minister, Chief Prevention Officer and other senior ministry officials

Leadership and Project Management Skills

• you have demonstrated leadership skills to provide group leadership to professional staff engaged in complex research and analysis of policy issues
• you have project management skills to lead research projects, including providing direction on methodology, research parameters, timeframes, and determination of priorities

Communication and Relationship Management Skills

• you have excellent oral and written communication skills to convey information in a clear and concise manner
• you have demonstrated ability to persuade and build consensus
• you have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders and senior government officials
