Are you looking for an opportunity to provide leadership to a group of technical and professional staff who contribute to the management and safety of Ontario's dams, roads and bridges?

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

• plan and implement the engineering section work program
• provide leadership in the management of Crown assets, such as dams, roads and bridges through scheduling inspections, dam safety reviews, maintenance, repair, replacement or decommissioning
• respond to requests for civil engineering and water management support
• provide technical and professional advice and guidance
• issue plans and specifications approvals and review and make recommendations
• review applications/plans and issue approvals under the Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act
• provide technical support to Ministry policy and program development

How do I qualify?

Mandatory requirements:

• You are a current Registered Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
• You have a minimum of a Class G Driver's Licence or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario, and the willingness to travel.

Leadership skills:

• You have proven leadership and managerial skills to lead, motivate and develop staff, and to successfully implement change.
• You have the demonstrated ability to identify and successfully resolve complex and contentious issues.
• You have demonstrated ability to build and lead effective teams and the ability to recognize and use the full team potential.

Technical knowledge and skills:

• You have advanced knowledge and experience in the design, project management and construction of civil engineering structures such as dams, access roads and bridges.
• You have working knowledge of the principles and practices of natural resource management.
• You have strong organizational and project management skills with demonstrated ability to use good judgement and work independently while meeting tight deadlines and dealing with conflicting demands.

Financial and project management skills:

• You can plan, organize, direct and coordinate human, financial and material resources.
• You have demonstrated knowledge and experience with financial and human resources management processes, and related policies and procedures.
• You have practical knowledge and understanding of economics and budgeting.

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• You have well developed interpersonal skills to supervise professional, technical, and clerical staff, establish effective working relationships, and gather and share information.
• You have demonstrated ability to develop and maintain respectful, ethical and trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders, with a high level of integrity.
• You have proven ability to integrate opposing interests and professional opinions on complex issues and in establishing effective working relationships with associates, senior officials, and the public.
• You have demonstrated political acuity in communicating and managing contentious issues.
