The International Trade Branch is seeking a seasoned leader and export practioner to manage a team of export development professionals who deliver the Ministry's export development programs and assist individual companies to access and expand in to international markets.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• manage unit staff by establishing objectives and performance standards and by providing excellent leadership, motivation and international business expertise
• manage a range of export development programs and services to Ontario's small and medium enterprises to expand into International markets and advise Ontario companies on international market entry and expansion strategies
• develop intellectual capital on export development by managing research projects, developing information databases and encouraging information sharing
• create an effective network in the export development community to promote the Ministry's agenda to a wide range of stakeholders
• manage financial plans, budgets, forecasts and contracts
• you are capable of frequent international travel

How do I qualify?

Leadership Skills:

• you can provide leadership to and build a high performing team to ensure a collaborative work environment
• you can manage performance and develop staff and provide advice on the full spectrum of export practices and strategies

Technical Expertise:

• you have extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of international affairs and procurement, relevant commercial and financial requirements to provide consultation and advice to exporting SMEs
• you have first-hand experience in export sales and international trade development in a broad range of emerging and developed countries
• you have knowledge of conditions in Ontario and assigned markets, which impact on trade

Analytical and Strategic Thinking Skills:

• you can assist in the development of organization vision, direction and strategy
• you can promote Ontario and Ontario's small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to international buyers and execute marketing initiatives in different markets
• you have analytical skills and good judgment to analyze market trends, issues and stakeholder needs to respond with appropriate services, programs and initiatives

Stakeholder Management:

• you can work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders with different needs and facilitate information sharing and joint initiatives
• you can prepare complex presentations, plans and advice to senior management and stakeholders
• you have consultation skills to analyze client's needs and to respond with appropriate solutions and options
• you demonstrate tact and diplomacy when dealing with international buyers from various cultures

Administrative and Project Management Skills:

• you can manage the unit's administrative and financial processes and procedures such as contracts, business planning, procurement, budgets and resources
• you can manage complex projects and international events

Computer Proficiency

• you have knowledge of the latest technology to recommend and implement options to upgrade marketing tools and service delivery
• you are proficient in using computer software such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation to prepare a variety of reports
