Depending on the successful candidate, this position may be located at 33 King Street West, Oshawa or 14 Gable Lane, Kingston.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

• assist ministries in ensuring work is performed in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
• provide specialized advice, technical assistance and expertise to managers, supervisors, workers, human resource business units, and the Joint Health and Safety Committee system
• conduct and coordinate ergonomic and hazard assessments
• respond to work refusals and provide advice/interpretation of Ministry of Labour orders
• coordinate and provide education and training on a range of health, safety and wellness topics
• review statistics, analyze trends and make recommendations on accident prevention

This position will involve extensive travel within a region and occasional travel to other regions.

How do I qualify?

Technical Skills and Knowledge

• you have demonstrated experience with health and safety service delivery
• you have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations, relevant federal and provincial legislation and codes (e.g. Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Building Code, Fire Code), and industry best practices
• you can conduct ergonomic and hazard assessments
• you can make recommendations on health and safety practices
• you have knowledge of ergonomics, safety, industrial hygiene, and occupational illnesses
• you can use computer systems and standard software to produce various documents and track information

Communication, Analytical and Organizational Skills

• you have effective communication and interpersonal skills to interview employees, provide information, and promote compliance with legislation
• you can prepare and present reports/training materials to clients
• you have analytical and problem solving skills to conduct investigations, identify hazards, assess compliance, and make recommendations
• you have organizational and planning skills to coordinate activities and set priorities
