What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role you will:
• provide support and participate in the production of Ontario's forest resource information base
• assist in the assembly and preparation of forest inventory and forest ecosystem information
• conduct field survey activities
• carry out photo interpretation activities
How do I qualify?
Mandatory requirements:
• valid driver's licence to travel to conduct field work
Knowledge and experience:
• specialized knowledge and experience working with complex methods and theories related to photogrammetry including aerial photo interpretation, remote sensing and mapping
• confirmed experience working with photogrammetic methods and techniques
• demonstrated understanding of remote sensing principles, geomatic data management practices and theories to participate in and support the production, quality assurance and delivery of forest resources inventory products
Technical skills:
• strong ability to identify tree species, site parameters and forest sampling techniques
• ability to perform photogrammetric analyses, forest measurements and possess stereoscopic vision
• ability to work with cartographic and other mapped data sets
• strong financial planning and budgeting skills to allocate monies for survey seasons and aerial flights
Project planning and data management skills:
• strong project management and planning skills to assist with ongoing projects
• proven abilities in the preparation of inventory data and other data management
• ability to administer photo interpretation and field survey processes
Evaluative and problem solving skills:
• ability to evaluate specific forest stand information
• analytical and problem solving skills to identify and resolve issues
Communication and interpersonal skills:
• communication skills to assist in managing multiple assignments to produce Ontario's forest resources information base
• organizational and time management skills to complete work with competing timelines
Computer skills:
• ability to utilize standard software and geographic information system software
• use of image analysis software and other specialized forest information software programs
