The Office of the Independent Police Review Director (OIPRD) requires experienced public relations practitioners to act as the key OIPRD official contacts to provide outreach and education services for Ontario.

We are recruiting:
• One unilingual position: (12 months temporary assignment with possibility of extension)
• One bilingual position: ( 6 months temporary assignmentwith possibility of extension)

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
• identify, develop and deliver public information, explanations and education products regarding public complaints about the police
• work collegially with counterparts to develop, update, deliver and disseminate information materials
• co-ordinate meetings and training, and represent the OIPRD at various forums
• develop and recommend related approaches, tools, techniques, policies, standards and procedures
• support the implementation of a communication and information work plan for the OIPRD across Ontario
• provide tracking and monitoring analyses, expertise and recommendations in support of ongoing results evaluation

How do I qualify?

Mandatory for the bilingual position only:

• Proficiency in English as well as proficiency in oral and written French at the advanced level

Communication, Consultation and Interpersonal Skills:

• You demonstrate presentation skills to develop and deliver public information and education products to diverse audiences
• You have outreach and education development/communication skills, including writing skills and creativity to develop information products, tools and services
• You have consultative and interpersonal skills such as discretion, tact, diplomacy and impartiality to protect confidential information, anticipate, recognize and respond appropriately to sensitive issues and strong emotions
• You can maintain effective linkages and interact with internal and external contacts to obtain information, resolve issues in diverse and fluid situations

Knowledge and Skills:

• You have the ability to interpret and apply legislation to develop and deliver factual, consistent and impartial information to police and community groups and ensure that information, documents, forms, products for the public facilitate documentary accuracy and completeness
• You understand the issues, trends and developments relating to the interaction and relationships between Ontario police services and the general public to deal effectively with the public and contentious issues/confidential/sensitive matters during outreach presentations and in developing related materials
• You have knowledge of adult learning techniques and tools, including needs analysis, instructional design, implementation and evaluation principles, theories and methods to lead/participate in the development and to deliver training programs and projects that support OIPRD outreach and education initiatives and objectives

Project Management and Organization Skills:

• You have project management and work management skills to manage multiple concurrent projects
• You can prioritize and balance a wide variety of ongoing work and projects with unpredictable demand for information and complete tasks within tight deadlines
• You can work effectively individually and as part of a team to obtain agreement on matters involving the provision of public information

Research and Analytical Skills:

• You can gather, analyse and review information related to outreach and education development
• You can investigate, synthesize information and make recommendations for managements consideration

Computer Skills:

• You are proficient in using PC-based common office software (e.g., MS Office, intranet, Internet, the web, email) to create analyses, reports, presentations and correspondence and research, produce outreach and education information in diverse formats

    As a result of the recently agreed to AMAPCEO collective agreement, a new job evaluation system will be implemented on October 1, 2013. In the new job evaluation system, the classification level of this position is Level 5 with a salary range of $64,605.00 - $90,300.00
