Are you an experienced food service professional? If so, consider bringing your culinary expertise to the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Sudbury Jail.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

- prepare, cook, and serve three meals per day for inmates and staff
- train, instruct and supervise inmate cooks and helpers in the preparation of meals on an assigned shift

Please note, this position will be on an 'as required' basis with no guarantee of the number of hours worked (up to 40 hours per week).

How do I qualify?

Mandatory requirements:

You must have:

- possession of Journeyman Chef's Certificate as issued by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities OR sufficient acceptable experience in volume cooking
- valid First Aid and Heartsaver Certificate or the ability to obtain
- ability to work shift work, weekends, and holidays

Technical knowledge:

You have practical, applied knowledge of:

- general cooking methods and procedures
- food preparation and storage procedures
- food service guidelines
- use of kitchen equipment and tools

People skills:

You display:

- good communication and interpersonal skills
- the ability to instruct, train, supervise and control inmate kitchen workers

Reasoning skills:

You can demonstrate:

- good analytical and problem solving skills
- ability to interpret and apply legislation such as the Public Health Act, Health Protection and Promotion Act, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), to ensure compliance with food preparation and storage, sanitation, food safety, proper equipment operation, and utilization
