What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will:
• help food, beverage and agricultural companies make the most of their export opportunities
• help develop sales strategies to address evolving export challenges
• help link Ontario suppliers with buyers in the United States (U.S.).
• provide actionable market intelligence
• deliver educational programs that help prepare Ontario's exporters
• manage consultants in the U.S. that provide trade advisory services to Ontario
How do I qualify?
Mandatory requirements:
• You hold a valid Ontario Driver's Licence, minimum of Class “G” or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario.
• You are able to travel frequently and work outside regular business hours.
Knowledge of international trade:
• You have knowledge of the principles and practices of international trade including finance, logistics and marketing.
• You have knowledge of international trade relating to food and agriculture exports to the U.S.
• You have knowledge of the relevant regulations for food and agriculture exports to the U.S. (e.g. U.S. labeling, U.S. Food Safety Modernization Act, etc.).
• You have knowledge of the U.S. distribution channels for food, beverage and agriculture products, including the current requirements of retail and foodservice buyers.
• You have knowledge of the Ontario food, beverage and agriculture industry and related potential export opportunities.
Other important skills:
• You have analytical, research and problem-solving skills to identify industry trends and practices.
• You have oral communication and presentation skills to clearly communicate Ontario's export support services to Ontario producers.
• You have written communication skills to develop a broad range of correspondence (e.g. presentations, briefing materials, reports, etc.).
• You have project management and organizational skills to develop and manage effective marketing plans.
• You have tact, diplomacy and good judgement to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders such as foreign buyers, distributors and other government colleagues.
• You have computer skills to utilize a variety of software programs (e.g. word processing, presentation, database and client relationship management programs, etc.).
