What can I expect to do in this role?

The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services requires a bilingual professional to provide probation, parole and conditional sentence services to adult offenders, courts, Ontario Parole and Earned Release Board and related agencies in the criminal justice system, through assessment, case management, report preparation, enforcement, the development/provision of ministry programs, and the utilization of community resources. This is a regular part-time position, working 18.12 hours per week.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

proficiency in English and advanced-level proficiency in French; experience in the application of social work principles/practices (e.g., assessment, case management, interviewing, motivational and rehabilitative strategies); accurate, clear, concise oral and written communication skills; ability to establish/maintain client and stakeholder relationships; problem-solving, analytical and administrative skills; ability to use computer hardware/software to effectively input and retrieve information; demonstrated experience delivering/facilitating group rehabilitative programs; knowledge of/ability to interpret/apply relevant legislation; bachelors degree from a university of recognized standing.

Hours of work may vary according to operational requirements. Please indicate what, if any, probation and parole officer professional development exams/basic training (offered by MCSCS and/or MCYS) that you have successfully completed. Successful candidates who have not completed the ministry's probation and parole officer basic training program and who have not met the experience requirement will be hired in the lower probation and parole officer (PPO1) salary range ($869.13 -$1,098.73). Salary treatment will be in accordance with the applicable classification rate for which the applicant was successful.
