What can I expect to do in this role?

• You will be responsible for the development, review and implementation of federal legislated regulations and standards for the ministry CARs 702 & 703 rotary wing aircraft operations, the operation of the rotary wing fleet, and ensure the delivery of flight and ground training meet Transport Canada's requirements.
• You will provide professional leadership to a highly technical and decentralized flight operations team of managers and pilots to ensure the safe and cost effective delivery of quality flight services.
• This position provides liaison with Transport Canada, Canadian State Aircraft Operators Association, and assistance to Transportation Safety Board and safety officers during investigations.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You possess a valid Airline Transport Pilots License or a Commercial Pilots Licensed with current instrument rating or ability to acquire an Instrument rating.
• You have 4,000 helicopter flight hours
• You have the ability to pass Canadian and U.S. Transport Agency Security Screening
• You have a valid passport or ability to acquire
• You have a Restricted Radio Operators Licence

Leadership skills:

• You have proven experience to plan a complex flight operation program and the delivery of an effective aviation Safety Management System program.
• You have well developed work experience to plan, organize, direct and coordinate human, and financial resources in order to achieve program objectives and to supervise and develop staff.
• You have proven supervisory skills to administer and manage staff responsible for operating a diverse fleet of aircraft.
• You have an aptitude to run a highly complex flight operation program for a multi-million dollar fleet of aircraft operating in a diverse environment on a wide range of Government programs.

Technical knowledge and skills:

• You have knowledge and experience in aerial natural resource, fire management and or bush operations.
• You have thorough knowledge of the Aeronautics Act, Canadian Aviation Regulations, Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulations and the requirements of air operations manual.
• You have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• You have superior people skills to assign tasks and motivate a diverse and highly technical group of staff.
• You have proven interpersonal skills to communicate on aviation technical and administrative matters with regulatory agencies, senior government, ministry personnel at all levels.
• You have excellent written skills to author policy and procedures, operational guidelines and various technical reports.

Planning and organizational skills:

• You have well developed planning skills to administers all aspects of the rotary wing flight operations budget and to ensure pilots are well trained, qualified and available to meet flight requirements.
