The Ministry of Transportation is seeking a responsive, proactive leader who is prepared to play a significant leadership role to ensure the Ministry is informed and ready to respond to emergency situations.

In this dynamic opportunity with the Emergency Management & Planning Office, you will take on a strategic leadership role and lead the development and implementation of our Ministry's emergency preparedness, response and recovery capabilities. Join this high-profile team and bring your expertise to a Branch committed to public safety and service continuity.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this key role, the Manager will be responsible for:

• Managing the development and implementation of effective programs that support emergency management and continuity of operations.

• Developing and leading the ongoing evaluation of Ministry business continuity plans to ensure the Ministry has the necessary preparedness framework in place to respond to significant business disruptions.

• Directing and coordinating threat/risk assessments and recovery strategies for business resumption, while ensuring compliance with policies and legislation.

• Representing the Ministry at public and media engagements and developing and presenting briefing materials on high-profile issues for senior management.

• Collaborating with key partners within provincial, federal and cross-border response organizations, to obtain consensus and support on mitigation strategies related to emergency readiness planning and business continuity.

• Strengthening the Ministry's resilience through project implementation and effective management of a team dedicated to meeting key project results.

Leadership

• You have demonstrated experience leading and coaching staff to become a high performing unit and deliver on results in a high volume environment.
• You have demonstrated experience engaging and empowering staff and promoting a strong organizational culture of excellence.
• You have proven experience promoting equitable practices that value inclusiveness and diversity into your work environment.

Technical Skills

• You have experience aligning strategic plans with the organization's vision to ensure compliance with provincial policies and legislation.
• You have demonstrated knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge of government strategic directions and legislative/regulatory frameworks related to standards for emergency management and business continuity procedures.
• You have experience developing and implementing emergency management and business continuity strategies and demonstrate the ability to research and anticipate contentious issues/trends that may contribute to potential threats and disruptions.

Communication & Stakeholder Management

• You have demonstrated stakeholder management skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships in order to engage in negotiations with Emergency Management Ontario and central agencies.
• You demonstrate judgement and political acuity to manage crises and mitigation strategies and ensure key stakeholder support.
• You understand and can implement strategic plans through government decision-making and policy development processes and provide expert advice to senior management on high profile issues.
• You can develop and present effective briefings to represent the government through public appearances and media engagements.
