Are you looking for a career dedicated to helping protect Ontario's valuable drinking water?
We are seeking an energetic, conscientious individual with a strong science background, to perform specialized inspections of environmental laboratories.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• Conduct comprehensive inspections that assess the management, operations and administration of analytical laboratories performing environmental testing and regulated drinking water analysis
• Provide technical expertise and advice on compliance
• Enforce compliance using legal instruments
• Prepare technical reports and orders
• Discuss ongoing operating matters with laboratory authorities

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

You have a valid Ontario class ‘G' driver's licence

Environmental and Legislation Knowledge

• you have knowledge of the application of theories, principles and practices of environmental sciences and health risks
• You understand the management and operations of laboratories to assess environmental laboratory functions such as microbiology, inorganic and organic chemistry
• You have an in-depth understanding of internationally recognized standard quality practices to assess compliance
• you can interpret and apply environmental legislation (i.e. Ontario Water Resources Act, Safe Drinking Water Act and Ontario Regulations), policies and guidelines

Analytical, Problem Solving and Organizational Skills

• You have well-developed analytical and problem solving skills to identify cause and source of problems and develop a course of action to resolve the issue
• You can make decisions in crisis situations to de-escalate an issue as well as to determine the appropriate compliance or enforcement approach in any given situation
• You can coordinate, organize, and plan your work activities effectively

Communication and Computer Skills

• You can communicate in a clear manner in various scenarios (e.g. presentations, providing testimony in court)
• You can develop a variety of written materials (e.g. letters, technical reports)
• You can interact in a positive and effective manner with ministry committees, stakeholders, and staff
• You have experience using computers and software such as word processing, presentation, and database applications
