We have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a professional engineer to provide engineering expertise to technically complex environmental projects.
What can I expect to do in this role?
• Carry out engineering assessments of complex environmental issues
• Provide engineering support to staff in the development of pollution abatement strategies
• Provide recommendations and participate in developing abatement programs
• Coordinate inspection activities and provide technical advice to field staff
• Represent the ministry in court, board hearings, public meetings, etc.
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
• Currently licensed as an engineer with the Professional Engineers of Ontario
Environmental Knowledge
• You know the theories, principles, practices of engineering related to the environmental field
• You have experience in water supply, pollution control, solid and liquid waste management
• You can identify sources and types of water, air and solid pollutants from complex sources
• You can review engineering specifications and designs, analyze technical aspects of complex industrial processes and to recommend and implement effective abatement strategies based on sound engineering principles
• You understand and can apply environmental legislation (Environmental Protection Act), policies, and regulations
• You can interpret and apply health and safety legislation (Ontario Health and Safety Act) and procedures
• You know the rules of evidence
Analytical, Issues-, and Project Management Skills
• You can effectively manage assigned projects on time and within budget
• You can resolve pollution incidents by applying appropriate technical solutions
• You analyze different scenarios and develop an appropriate course of action
• You demonstrate good organizational skills
• You have strong skills in managing projects and issues effectively and efficiently
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
• You can communicate technical information in a clear manner to technical and non-technical audiences
• You can develop a variety of written products (e.g. reports, correspondence)
• You can work well with all levels of staff
• You possess good negotiation skills
