What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• lead the policy development process and perform complex and sensitive policy analysis
• develop and review functions in support of Aboriginal and partner engagement
• provide advice, guidance and tools to assigned Aboriginal relationships and related processes
• analyze and assess issues raised by ministries

How do I qualify?

Knowledge of the Aboriginal community:

• You have extensive knowledge and understanding of the factors and issues impacting and influencing Aboriginal policy development: the Crown's legal duty to consult, Aboriginal and Treaty rights, inter-governmental relations.
• You have knowledge of the policies, legislation, trends and issues affecting Aboriginal peoples of Ontario.
• You have an understanding of the concepts, barriers and principles for engaging, consulting and building relationships with Aboriginal partners, communities and organizations.

Knowledge of policy development:

• You can lead policy initiatives through the policy development and approvals process.
• You understand the concepts, barriers and principles for engaging and consulting with other government stakeholders (e.g. municipalities and related proponents).
• You have research and analytical skills to assess and address issues affecting Aboriginal people.
• You are able to provide advice and develop recommendations to Aboriginal issues.

Communication and relationship management skills:

• You have written communication and computer skills to prepare a variety of correspondence (e.g. reports, presentations, etc.).
• You have oral communication skills and political acuity to liaise with internal and external stakeholders and provide briefings to senior management.
• You have relationship management skills to build effective relationships with colleagues, other government stakeholder and Aboriginal organizations and representatives.

Project leadership skills:

• You have project leadership skills to plan, coordinate project activities and guide project team members.
• You have knowledge of project management theories and tools.
