The Ministry of Labour seeks an inspiring and engaging executive leader for the service delivery operations for the Northern Region. The successful candidate will build on the deep commitment of staff and the breadth of their skills to integrate knowledge and channel their passion to achieve desired outcomes.

As Regional Director in the Operations Division of the Ministry of Labour, you will lead the delivery of occupational health and safety and employment standards programs for the northern region which includes North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Thunder Bay and Timmins. You will lead a region of geographically dispersed professional staff who are engaged in field investigations and enforcement of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Employment Standards Act. You will also work across regions and with other regulatory ministries and stakeholders, in particular the mining sector, to advance safe, fair and harmonious workplace practices for all Ontarians.

This position can be headquartered out of Sudbury and requires frequent travel around the region.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Highlights of the key priorities include:

• Leadership of program responsibilities to ensure regional coordination and delivery in the vast geographic area of Northern Ontario and providing leadership in provide leadership in the delivery of numerous programs related to occupational health & safety, and employment standards.

• Strategic planning and development of program performance measures that monitor and continuously improve inspections, enforcement and compliance programs and their effective delivery.

• Management of relationships and maintenance of key partners with internal and external stakeholders such as Safety Associations, mining sector, municipalities, Aboriginal communities and employers.
Your knowledge of and experience in Northern Ontario will help to position you well to understand and influence key partners regarding the unique challenges of the North.

Communications, Relationship Building & Political Acuity:

• You have proven political acuity and ability to manage complex issues within an organization with a high public profile and scrutiny.
• You can handle challenging situations with tact and discretion.
• You have excellent communication and facilitation skills, as well as the ability to quickly gain credibility and respect during internal and external consultations.
• You have an outstanding ability to develop strong relationships and proactively recognize and respond to the needs of all parties.
