About the job

In this role, you will:

• promote environmental protection, pollution prevention and conservation
• provide legislative and policy advice and recommendations to various stakeholders
• identify environmental issues and conflicts and develop and integrate solutions
• review official plans, plans of subdivisions, amendments, as well as provide pre-submission consultation
• identify, develop and implement outreach and training to promote sound land use management and environmental assessments
• coordinate reviews of environmental assessments by internal teams in areas of air, water and land
• evaluate applications and projects for approval under the class environmental assessment (EA) requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act
• prepare minister's correspondence, briefing notes and other documents

What you bring to the team


Technical knowledge:

You have:
• proven ability to apply and interpret related theories and practices of land use planning, and environmental assessment processes
• ability to apply and interpret relevant environmental legislation and guidelines (e.g. Environmental Assessment Act, D-series guidelines, Building Code Act, Regulation 350/06 or 332/12, Ontario Water Resources Act, Safe Drinking Water Act)
• demonstrated ability to apply the practices of environmental science including ecosystem and media specific natural environmental management components

Analytical and problem-solving sklls:

You have:
• analytical, research, and planning skills to assess and identify environmental issues, conflicts and implement solutions
• negotiation skills to resolve conflicting opinions, and provide recommendations (e.g. articles of settlement at hearings)

Communication and interpersonal skills:

You have communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to prepare and present assessments/recommendations and present Ministry positions on environmental resource management

Project management skills:

You have:
• project management and organizational skills to plan/coordinate the review of numerous submissions to ensure legislated timelines are met and work is completed in accordance with established regional priorities
• ability to work independently and in a team

Computer skills:

• You have proficiency of computer software applications (e.g. Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, database, and Excel)
