About the job

• Use your engineering expertise to assess wastewater and stormwater systems and help ensure they meet Ontario's environmental standards and protect public health.
• Apply environmental laws and policies to develop clear, enforceable approvals that guide how infrastructure is built and operated across the province.
• Lead complex projects from start to finish, working with technical experts, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders to deliver timely, high-quality decisions.
• Analyze risks and solve problems by reviewing technical designs and data, identifying environmental concerns, and recommending practical solutions.
• Communicate clearly and build strong relationships with clients, consultants, and the public—translating technical information into plain language and supporting informed decisions.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).

Environmental Engineering and Legislative Knowledge:

• Demonstrated knowledge of wastewater and stormwater treatment technologies, effluent criteria, and site-specific pollution control methods.
• Ability to apply engineering principles to evaluate environmental impacts and ensure technical soundness and regulatory compliance.
• Skill in interpreting and applying environmental legislation, regulations, and ministry policies to complex engineering scenarios.
• Ability to develop enforceable approval conditions that align with legal and policy frameworks while protecting public health and the environment.

Analytical Thinking and Risk Assessment

• Ability to assess technical submissions and identify gaps, risks, and mitigation strategies.
• Competence in evaluating ill-defined or novel issues and formulating evidence-based recommendations under regulatory constraints.

Project and Stakeholder Management

• Skill in coordinating multi-disciplinary input and managing concurrent engineering projects to meet service standards.
• Ability to build consensus and maintain productive relationships with diverse stakeholders, including Indigenous communities and technical experts.

Communication and Relationship Building

• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Competence in preparing professional documentation and fostering collaborative relationships across sectors and communities.
