The Office of the Auditor General of Ontario (OAGO) is recruiting a highly motivated accounting professional interested in supporting its mandate to promote accountability and value-for-money in government and broader public sector operations. The Office is responsible for financial statement (attest) audits of the consolidated financial statements of the Province and of a wide variety of crown agencies such as the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO), Ontario Securities Commission, Ontario Cannabis Retail Corporation, iGaming Ontario and Ontario Health. The Office also conducts performance audits of virtually all aspects of the Ontario government and the Broader Public Sector and reports to Ontario's Legislative Assembly.

About the job

As an Attest Audit / Professional Practices Manager, you will:

• Manage all aspects of attest audits and related reporting requirements and special projects (if required) in accordance with professional standards and various legislation.
• Support the Director of Professional Practices in ensuring that the OAGO's quality assurance system complies with professional standards and internal policies.

What you bring to the team


You will qualify for this position by demonstrating:

Mandatory:
o Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
o Minimum of seven years recent external audit experience at a CPA firm or legislative office with a focus on conducting/managing financial statement audits under Canadian GAAS.
o Previous public sector or audit quality assurance experience is an asset.
o May require occasional travel.

Knowledge and Technical Skills:

o Excellent knowledge of standards and guidance related to GAAP (with a focus on PSAS and IFRS) and GAAS (including CAS and quality assurance standards).
o Understanding of the Ontario government environment and legislative processes and government policies and procedures is an asset.
o Working knowledge of audit software, Microsoft Office, IT controls, data analytics and other automated auditing approaches.

Analytical, Judgement and Problem Solving Skills:

o Excellent analytical skills to assess multi-dimensional audit issues.
o Professional judgment to independently conduct audits, identify issues and determine their underlying cause/impact, and develop sound conclusions and recommendations as well as provide advice and guidance to staff on various complex auditing issues.
o Flexibility to adapt to a variety of audit environments.

Communication and Relationship Management Skills:

o Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to manage a team of accounting professionals through all phases of audits and foster a cooperative team environment and staff development.
o Strong oral communication skills to build professional relationships, discuss audit plans, resolve accounting issues, communicate observations and recommendations.
o Excellent written communication skills to ensure reports are clear, concise, fully supported and easily understood.
o Provide updates to audit methodology and guidance materials to staff.
o Deliver technical training as required.

Flexibility, Adaptability and Organizational Skills:

o Ability to shift between different projects or areas of focus depending on priorities and the time of year.
o Strong organizational skills to manage a variety of projects at one time, promote effective audit processes, and meet tight deadlines.
o Flexibility to adapt to a variety of audit environments.

Asset Qualifications

• Having the ability to communicate (orally and in writing) in French is an asset.
