Do you have a passion for preserving Ontario's cultural heritage? Join the Ontario Heritage Trust and take the lead in caring for a collection of 25,000 artifacts that tell the story of Ontario from the 18th to 20th centuries.

About the job

As Curator, Cultural Collections, you will:

• Develop and implement conservation plans for artifacts and archival materials
• Oversee artifact care at museums and heritage sites across Ontario
• Manage the collections budget and contracts with conservators and museum professionals
• Research, document, and evaluate artifacts to support exhibitions and public programs
• Create engaging displays and online content to share Ontario's history
• Build partnerships with educational institutions and mentor emerging professionals

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• You must possess a certificate, diploma or degree in museum studies, or post-secondary degree in conservation, art history, museology or equivalent education and/or professional training

Business Knowledge:

• Understanding of museum practices and Ontario's art, social, political, and cultural history
• Knowledge of historical research, archival methods, and curatorial best practices
• Ability to plan and deliver conservation and exhibition programs across multiple sites

Technical Knowledge:

• Familiarity with legislation, preservation theory, and artifact conservation techniques
• Safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials used in collections management

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• Strong writing and presentation skills to engage diverse audiences
• Sound judgment and diplomacy when working with donors, partners, and stakeholders
• Supervisory skills to manage contracts and professional services

Computer Skills:

• Proficiency in MS Office and advanced experience with collections databases and museum software (e.g., MINISIS)
