The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming/Ministry of Sport/Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility/Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism Legal Branch of the Civil Law Division, Ministry of the Attorney General has an immediate opening for one legal counsel to provide legal support on priority government projects and the multi- faceted work of the branch, as part of a collegial and experienced legal team.
About the job
Duties will include:
•Providing legal advice in the areas of corporate/commercial, heritage, Indigenous law, intellectual property, regulatory, administrative, privacy, and public law
•Providing legal support to clients to support policy development work, issues management, communication products and the development of Ministry policies and operational approaches
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts, transfer payment agreements, consultation records, procurement documents, licenses, memoranda of understanding and other legal documents
• Legislative drafting, including regulations and Orders-in-Council
• Providing legal advice in relation to Crown agencies including corporate governance and appointments
• Providing regulatory advice and statutory interpretation in a variety of areas
• Providing litigation support
• Providing written and oral legal advice to clients on a wide variety of policy and operational issues.

Mandatory requirements
• Membership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario
Knowledge and Skills
• You have demonstrated knowledge, interest, or experience in the subject areas of our client ministries and agencies
• You have demonstrated knowledge, interest, or experience in at least some of the areas of law that our branch practices
• You have proven excellent communication skills (oral and written)
• You have demonstrated ability to research and analyze a broad variety of legal issues and public policy
• You have the ability to thrive in a high pressure, high volume legal practice
• You have experience working independently and as part of a team. You are collaborative and are committed to a culture of continuous improvement.
• You have demonstrated strong judgment and analytical skills to help manage complex and contentious issues
• You have well developed organizational and time management skills
• You have demonstrated great client service and have a proven record of building positive relationships with clients and colleagues, and of fostering and creating a culture of diversity, anti-racism, equity and wellness in the workplace.
