Omemee, Ontario, is a scenic 83.37-hectare park established in 1957. Emily Park offers a variety of recreational activities, including family-friendly camping, fishing along the Pigeon River, and boating on the Trent Severn Waterway. The park cluster is made up of Emily, Mark S. Burnham, Wolf Island and Harris Island Provincial Parks.
About the job
As a Senior Operations Technician you will be an integral part of the park management team by assisting with the hands on day-today operations of the park including enforcement, health and safety, and supervisory duties. In this role, you will:
• provide group leadership for a variety of technical duties and program responsibilities associated with the day-to-day operation of the park
• enforce provincial statutes within the park
• ensure the health and safety of staff and park visitors
• assist with staff supervision, training, scheduling, etc.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be required to:
• become designated as a Park Warden and meet ministry certification criteria and standards in Use of Force.
• work shifts, weekends and holidays as per schedule.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements:
• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's license or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's license upon being hired.
General knowledge:
• You possess a general knowledge of building, grounds keeping and utility maintenance.
• You are knowledgeable of the operation and maintenance of light powered equipment such as lawnmowers, tractors, ATV's, chainsaws, boats, small hand tools, etc.
• You possess knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply relevant acts, regulations, policies and principles related to resource management, enforcement, purchasing and budgeting as well as public health and workplace safety (eg. Occupational Health and Safety Act).
• You can prepare administrative and legal reports, order equipment and supplies, maintain park operations within assigned budgets;
Leadership and supervisory skills:
• You possess demonstrated leadership skills to provide team leadership to a variety of park staff.
• You possess supervisory skills to assist in day-to-day management and park operations.
• You have experience preparing work plans and leading a team with the implementation of approved work programs
Communication and interpersonal skills:
• You possess well developed communication skills to enforce park rules and regulations and to provide accurate information to staff, service providers and visitors.
• You possess interpersonal skills to effectively respond to inquiries and handle complaints tactfully and with discretion.
• You have demonstrated written communication skills to complete required reports, training records, maintenance logs, revenue reporting and to provide correspondence to staff, service providers and visitors.
General skills:
• You possess organizational skills to set work priorities and meet competing deadlines.
• You are proficient with a variety of computer software applications, databases and systems (e.g. word processing, record keeping, reservation systems and databases, electronic mail, etc.).
