$92,641.00 - $126,149.00 Per year

Effective January 1, 2026, the new salary range for this position will be $94,494 - $128,672 per year in accordance with PEGO collective agreement provisions.

About the job

In this position, you will:

• Conduct engineering assessment of project components, by reviewing and evaluating engineering designs, plans, specifications and accompanying reports submitted to the Ministry in support of environmental permission applications.
• Make recommendations on the approval or rejections of environmental permission applications.
• Under the guidance of Ministry Lead/Senior engineers, prepare legally binding and enforceable environmental permissions with the necessary terms and conditions, regulatory relief or Notice of Refusal when recommending rejection.
• Ensure all documentation compiles with applicable legislation, regulations, policies, and guidelines.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
• The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid G license or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's license upon being hired.

Technical Engineering Expertise

• Knowledge of chemical, civil or mechanical engineering theories, principles, and standards across one or more of: hydrology, , and environmental disciplines.
• Skill in applying engineering judgment to interpret technical data, evaluate designs, and assess risks related to infrastructure performance and safety.
• Ability to integrate multiple engineering domains to develop sound, compliant, and reliable engineering recommendations.

Regulatory and Legislative Acumen

• Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, regulations, and professional standards (e.g., EPA, OWRA, SDWA, , Environmental Assessment Act, , and applicable ministry regulations, policies and guidelines) to ensure engineering decisions align with compliance expectations and approval requirements.

Project Management & Coordination skills:

• Knowledge of project management, procurement, and contract administration principles to support effective planning, coordination, and oversight.
• Ability to manage timelines, resources, and multidisciplinary inputs to ensure quality, budget, and schedule alignment.

Analytical, Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving Competence

• Skill in analyzing technical, financial, and risk-related information to support sound engineering judgments.
• Ability to identify issues and develop evidence-based solutions aligned with engineering standards and best practices.

Communication, Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

• Skill in clearly conveying technical information through written, verbal, and visual communication to diverse audiences.
• Ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in technical discussions and decision-making.
