Effective, January 1, 2026, the new salary range for this position will be $94,494 - $128,672 per year in accordance with PEGO collective agreement provisions.

About the job

• Provide technical expertise in assessing and evaluating the technical work of stakeholders within and across branches and divisions.
• Prepare, negotiate, and implement regulations and control programs to address industrial environmental issues, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
• Lead the drafting of technical regulatory requirements for greenhouse gas reporting and emissions performance standards.
• Maintain expertise in pollution control/prevention technologies and practices applicable to various industrial processes.
• Develop and consult on environmental policies, regulations, procedures, and programs related to Ontario's industries, ensuring collaboration with other ministries and divisions.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory

• You currently have accreditation as a Professional Engineer in a Canadian Province or Territory, and you will obtain a Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) license as a condition of accepting this position.

Technical Expertise:

• Knowledge of theories, principles and practices of industrial processes, production, waste characteristics and the latest greenhouse gas emissions control/prevention technology.
• Knowledge of environmental legislation, policies, standards, and guidelines relevant to industrial environmental programs.
• Engineering and technical aspects of reporting, control strategies, fiscal instruments (e.g., emissions trading, market instruments), performance standards, fuel standards and energy management.

Problem Resolution and Analytical skills:

• Proven research and analysis skills to evaluate complex new technologies in industrial environmental control and provide engineering advice related to greenhouse gas and air pollutant management.
• Can resolve complex technical problems to support planning and development of policies in accordance with overall ministry's goals and objectives.

Communication and Interpersonal skills:

• Proven ability to communicate technical and non-technical information effectively both verbally and in writing in a manner suitable for the intended audience.
• Demonstrated tact, diplomacy and interpersonal skills to resolve problems, negotiate with stakeholders and prepare responses to public inquiries.

Project Management skills:

• Project management principles to effectively manage assigned projects and issues.

Computer Proficiency:

• Proficiency with databases, word processing, spreadsheet, graphing and presentation software and general programming methodologies to assess and manipulate data, prepare reports and presentations, and conduct research.
