Step into a leadership role where you'll guide a talented team to deliver strategic communications for the Editorial and Corporate Services Office within the Ministry of Transportation's Communications Branch. In this role, you'll support and lead the ministry's internal communications team while overseeing the Minister's correspondence and direct community management channels to ensure clear, timely and impactful messaging that connects with Ontarians and supports ministry priorities.

About the job

In this role, you will:

• Lead the development and delivery of strategic communications advice, services and products on high-profile communication and initiatives. This includes internal communications for ministry staff, as well as public and stakeholder engagement through ministerial and ministry correspondence.
• Provide team leadership by supporting and overseeing work to its completion, reviewing assignments and providing feedback, and providing orientation and training to new team members.
• Oversee multi-disciplinary communications projects, including internal communications and cross-divisional collaborations.
• Lead and coordinate the research, writing and editing of a variety of materials to support communications including minister's correspondence, internal communications materials and other strategic communications materials.
• Advise senior leadership on strategic communications and stakeholder engagement strategies.

Leadership and project management skills:

• You have proven leadership skills to motivate and guide communications teams, provide coaching, technical direction, and training to support team success.
• You can apply project management methodologies to lead all phases of communications projects to ensue timely and successful delivery.

Interpersonal and relationship management skills:

• You have demonstrated stakeholder and relationship management skills to build and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior officials
• You can influence and advise senior leaders by providing strategic guidance on complex issues and communications planning.
• You have the interpersonal and facilitation skills to lead discussions, chair meetings, and manage conflicting viewpoints to build consensus.
• You can navigate politically sensitive environments with sound judgment and political acuity when engaging with executive offices and diverse stakeholder groups.

Communications skills

• You have well developed oral and written communication skills to simplify complex policy and legislation for public and media audiences.
• You can prepare and edit a wide range of communications products including briefing documents, strategic communications plans and proposals, and messaging that align with government and ministry priorities.

Analytical and problem-solving skills

• You have demonstrated research and analytical skills to conduct environmental scans, market research, and post-implementation evaluations using performance measurement methodologies.
• You have strategic thinking skills to identify and assess emerging issues and develop strategic communications plans that mitigate risks and align with best practices.

Strategic communications expertise

• You have expertise in strategic communications planning, grounded in government and organizational policies, editorial standards, and contemporary practices to lead initiatives and advise senior officials.
• You can ensure communications strategies align with government direction and comply with organizational mandates, guidelines and legislative requirements
• You have a deep understanding of ministry priorities to develop communications plans that support business objectives and maintain consistency with government goals.
• You can effectively utilize digital and social media platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter to incorporate communications strategies to optimize community outcome
