As a Correctional Locksmith, you will play a vital role in maintaining security systems and contributing to general maintenance operations across the facility.

About the job

In this role, you will:
• Maintain the master key system for all facility buildings and personnel, cutting duplicate keys as necessary, repairing locks and rekeying doors
• Interpret blueprints, diagrams, and prepare your own sketches to plan, lay out, and execute work in accordance with building codes and by-laws.
• Estimate material and labour requirements; requisition supplies; maintain accurate records; and interact with vendors and specialized contractors.
• Repair, rebuild, repin, clean, and lubricate locks and cylinders; repair or replace door hardware and closers.
• Oversee and determine best approach to the procurement of specialized contractor work.
• Assist with general maintenance tasks, including work on HVAC, boilers, fire systems, and other electromechanical systems as required.
• Be on-call as scheduled to respond to after-hours emergencies or urgent maintenance issues.

Mandatory requirements

• You are a licensed Locksmith

Technical Knowledge and Experience

You have demonstrated:
• Expertise with locksmith tools, equipment, and techniques used in installing, repairing, and modifying locks, doors, and hardware.
• Understanding of relevant codes, by-laws, and security practices to maintain compliance and safety.
• Ability to read and prepare blueprints, sketches, and plans to ensure precise measurements and layout accuracy.
• Knowledge of master/sub-master systems and computerized key control systems.
• Familiarity with WHMIS, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and safe operation of tools and equipment.

Other Essential Skills

• Problem-solving abilities to assess repair needs and determine appropriate methods for replacing or reworking lock systems.
• Strong planning and estimating skills to determine labour time, material requirements and project timelines.
• Effective communication skills to discuss work requirements with staff, contractors, and other skilled trades.
