About the job
As a Wildlife Analyst, you will:
• plan, design, organize, and manage wildlife population and habitat data
• perform statistical and spatial analyses on land use, forest management, forest inventory, wildlife population and habitat data
• support the planning and delivery of field-based data collection programs
• prepare and deliver presentations, workshops, and field training sessions
• participate in and provide expertise to policy development and science planning teams
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Data management and data analysis knowledge:
• knowledge of principles and operating practices for data and information gathering and management
• experience and knowledge of hard copy and electronic data collection and inventory techniques, data preparation and entry
• knowledge of quantitative analysis of land use, forestry and wildlife populations and habitat data
• understanding of univariate and multivariate statistics and resource management models
Analytical and organizational skills:
• demonstrated analytical, evaluative and interpretative skills to identify issues, determine requirements, execute research, undergo testing, evaluate results, make recommendations and resolve matters
• knowledge of organizational and time management skills to meet project deadlines and manage competing demands
• project management skills to coordinate human and equipment resources and coordination of work within work groups, with clients and other science programs
Technical expertise:
• demonstrated knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of biology/ecology and wildlife management principles, sampling methods and analysis
• strong field-based knowledge of forestry, wildlife science, population dynamics and terrestrial ecosystems
• knowledge of field equipment operations to perform field maintenance, calibration, adjustments and repair of equipment such as GPS units, hand held data computers, and vehicles in accordance with user's manuals
Communication and interpersonal skills:
• proven interpersonal skills to operate within a team environment and create partnerships with various stakeholders
• leadership skills to provide effective technical and professional advice and guidance to internal/external clients
• communication skills to discuss technical elements; to present and discuss technical information; to respond to correspondence and to create reports, maps, procedural documentation, make presentations, share information with staff and the public
Computer and technical skills:
• proficiency with word-processing, databases, email, internet and spreadsheet applications
• ability to effectively use statistical software packages (e.g. R, Python) in order to access and analyze information, prepare scientific reports/technical papers, publications and presentations
• general knowledge of GIS and proven ability to create, manipulate and query spatial data
