The Major Highway Projects Division is looking for dynamic Senior Designers to contribute to our transportation projects with expertise and innovation. In this role, you'll provide technical guidance, work with talented teams, and contribute to the delivery of Ontario's multi-year highway construction program.

The Major Highway Projects Division provides end-to-end delivery of major infrastructure projects using a range of contract delivery methods and partnerships, while working closely with delivery partners – within MTO, across the OPS, agencies, industry, and municipal and First Nations communities. Infrastructure projects include Highway 413 and Bradford Bypass.

About the job

In this role, you will:

• Provide technical advice and assistance to Project Managers and Engineers in consultant acquisition and management
• Provide technical supervision, general guidance and assistance to team members assigned to transportation projects
• Participate in project teams by preparing designs, technical reports, contract plans and documents required for the delivery of Ontario's multi-year highway construction program

What you bring to the team


Technical skills

• You have demonstrated knowledge of highway engineering design practices and policies
• You have demonstrated experience with computer system applications related to highway planning, design practices and engineering drafting

Problem-solving, decision analysis and communication skills

• You have problem-solving and decision analysis skills to develop and evaluate effective planning and design alternatives for self, assigned staff and consultants
• You have communication skills to communicate with staff, consultants, external agencies, elected officials, senior ministry staff, peers and the public at community information centres

Organizational and teamwork skills

• You are able to organize and monitor work assignments and assist project management staff in consultant acquisition and administration
• You demonstrate the ability to function effectively to achieve results in tight time-frames, both as a team member and as a team leader
