The Ministry of the Attorney General, Civil Law Division, Ministry of Transportation, Legal Services Branch (MTO LSB) is seeking an experienced and team oriented lawyer who is well organized, a self-starter, and who can work in a fast-paced environment.
About the job
Reporting to the Director and/or Deputy Director, you would:
• Draft and provide excellent legal advice to support the negotiation of a high volume of large complex commercial and inter-governmental agreements, contracts, transfer payment and cost sharing agreements, including transfer payment agreements with municipalities, private sector and other entities and funding agreements involving the federal government
• Advise on a high volume of commercial matters and various types of agreements including data sharing and exchange contracts, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements, and memoranda of understanding pertaining to various high-profile Ministry programs
• Provide oral and written opinions and advice on a wide range of freedom of information and protection of privacy matters, including FOI access requests and appeals, as well as advising on privacy considerations for issues involving ministry information, such as data sharing agreements with third parties
• Support the advancement of MTO's capital highway and infrastructure projects and other Ministry work by providing excellent solution oriented legal advice in the areas of commercial, expropriations law and administrative law
•Provide excellent written and oral legal advice to support the development of MTO programs and policies
•Brief Ministry officials
•Participate in committee and administrative duties as assigned
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• Membership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario
Knowledge and Skills
• You have proven experience drafting complex contracts, transfer payments, procurement agreements and other complex commercial and inter-governmental agreements, including agreements with municipalities, private sector, and other entities, as well as funding agreements involving the federal government and federal funds
• You have proven experience advising on complex commercial transactions and agreements, including data sharing agreements, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements and memoranda of understanding
• You have proven experience advising on freedom of information and protection of privacy issues in the context of the
Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act• You have a working knowledge of commercial law, contract law, privacy law, expropriations law and administrative law
• You have excellent judgement and the ability to work under pressure, providing legal advice that fully considers clients' policies, programs, objectives and interests
•You have experience providing advice to statutory decision-makers
•You are familiar with the
Public Service Works on Highways Act, the
Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act, the
Expropriations Act and other legislation relevant to MTO
•You have the ability to handle multiple tasks while working under tight deadlines
• You have excellent analytical skills and communication skills, including the ability to write clearly
•You have excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to contribute and work effectively as part of a team
•Demonstrated computer skills
