Are you looking for an opportunity where you can showcase your economic research and analysis skills? Consider this role where you will provide complex research and economic analysis to support the Ontario Government's trade mandate with a focus on Ontario's trade ecosystem.

In the Economic Research and Analytics Branch, we play an important role in enhancing evidence-based decision making for the province's economic development agenda. We support economic development policies, strategies and programs to address business competitiveness issues in collaboration with partner ministries.

About the job

In this role, you will:

• Provide research expertise and analysis of economic data and trade statistics using advance knowledge of economics, trade theories, research techniques, analytics and statistical tools and approaches
• Translate economic/ trade data results into recommendations for senior leadership decision-making
• Develop research design, data collection methods and strategies for data management
• Establish and maintain working relationships with key partners (e.g. Statistics Canada) for input and data sharing

What you bring to the team


Research, Analysis and Data Expertise

Bring strong analytical skills to help us make evidence-based decisions.

• Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods to conduct in-depth analysis, trend reviews, and environmental scans.
• Ability to interpret information objectively, draw insights, and provide clear recommendations.
• Skill in assessing data reliability and supporting effective data collection, monitoring, analysis, and reporting.
• Experience using data visualization tools to present complex findings (e.g., dashboards).
• Knowledge of statistical methods and experience using analytical software.

Essential Knowledge of Trade and Economic Issues

Understand the broader economic landscape that shapes Ontario's trade environment.

• Knowledge of trade theories, global sector trends, and macroeconomic concepts.
• Awareness of Ontario's economic and trade priorities to support accurate research and analysis.
• Understanding of issues affecting domestic and international trade, including relevant legislation, free trade agreements, and policy directions.
• Knowledge of performance measurement tools and techniques.

Project Management and Leadership Skills

Use strong planning and coordination skills to support analytical projects.

• Ability to guide and support colleagues when needed.
• Experience planning, managing, and coordinating analytical projects.
• Organizational and time-management skills to lead multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Communication and Collaboration Skills

Work well with others and communicate analysis clearly and accessibly.

• Relationship-building skills to collaborate with staff across different levels and areas.
• Ability to present research findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience using standard and visualization tools to prepare your own materials.
